Luther College received a grant of $2,000 from the American Legion of Iowa Foundation in support of scholarships for veterans and members of their families.

Society has taken a “dark turn” since the turn of the 21st century, embracing globalization of a fear of others, according to ethnomusicologist Peter Hoesing. Hoesing, Luther College class of 2003, will discuss this turn in “Multiculturalism and its Malcontents,” at the annual Phi Beta Kappa Symposium in the Humanities, part of Luther’s Homecoming weekend.

Luther senior Zakithi Nkosi of Manzini, Swaziland, spent the summer as an intern at Premium Solutions.

Assisting in the intensive care unit, Luther College senior Philip Bagnoli spent the summer interning at Holy Family Hospital in New Delhi, India.

Eight Luther College alumni will kick off homecoming weekend festivities with being bestowed the Luther Distinguished Service Awards by Luther President Paula Carlson.

Featuring the college’s premiere touring ensembles, the Luther College Homecoming Concert will be presented at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall on the Luther campus. Performing at the concert are Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Baldwin; Concert Band, under the direction of guest director Jack Stamp and Nordic Choir, conducted by Andrew Last. In addition, four music awards will be presented.

Luther College will celebrate Homecoming 2018 Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 25-28, bringing more than 5,000 friends and alumni back to campus to partake in class reunions, sporting events, musical concerts and more.

Luther College graduate Sameer Dixit will speak about his extensive career in public health in Nepal at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, in Valders Hall of Science Room 206 on Luther’s campus.

Through her senior project, Luther College alumna Maggie (Steinberg) Hagen examined Luther’s history during key racialized moments in American history. That research led Hagen to delve further into the archives to understand the tensions she felt in her community during current historical moments.
