Jennaya Robison, assistant professor of music at Luther College will give a vocal recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 8, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on the Luther Campus. Robison will be joined by Jared Rogers, tenor, Nicholas Shaneyfelt, collaborative piano, and Diego Piedra, violin.
In celebration of the diverse cultures that come together to make up the Luther College community, the annual Ethnic Arts Festival held by the Center for Intercultural Engagement and Student Success will take place Saturday, March 2. People who have attended the festival in previous years will notice a new structure to this year’s event, including new activities highlighting cultures found in the local community.

Giving a multimedia introduction to Jimmy Buffett’s extensive career, Luther College Professor Emeritus of History Marv Slind will present the lecture, “Growing Older Without Growing Up: The ‘Parrothead’ Life” at Luther’s Emeriti Colloquium, at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 14, in the Mott Room of the Dahl Centennial Union. The lecture is open to the public with no charge for admission.
A joyful performer and consummate drummer, Keith Hall will present a guest jazz artist recital alongside Luther College faculty at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 7, in the Recital Hall of the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther campus. The performance is open to the public with no charge of admission. The performance titled “Art Blakey at 100: A Musical Celebration of Blakey and the Jazz Messengers,” includes music by Benny Golson, Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Bobby Timmons and other distinguished alumni of Blakey’s Jazz Messengers.
As a part of Luther College’s Spring 2019 Biology Colloquium series, Kurayi Mahachi, Luther class of 2015, will present his lecture, “Lyme disease among hunting dogs: field research in public health,” at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in the Valders Hall of Science Room 206 on the Luther campus. The lecture is open to the public with no charge for admission.
The Luther College Balalaika Ensemble, featuring special guest Ami Hall, class of 1996, will perform in concert at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 3, in Shirley Baker Commons on the Luther campus. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission. Young children are encouraged to attend.
Beginning with a digital humanities initiative focused on changing racial and economic demographics, The Welcome Project helps participants look at factors contributing to the de-urbanizing of communities in post-industrial America. Luther College is hosting The Art of the Story exhibit in the Wigley Fleming gallery in the Center for the Arts on the Luther College campus. This exhibit is available to the public from Feb. 7 to March 14 with no charge for admission.
Luther College’s Beth Lynch, associate professor in biology and Savannah Wilson, class of 2019, are presenting their lecture about plant diversity in northeastern Iowa at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206.
Luther College Professor of Psychology Loren Toussaint received the “editor’s pick” 2018 Paper of the Year Award from the American Journal of Health Promotion for his recent publication: “Forgiveness Working: Forgiveness, Health, and Productivity in the Workplace.”
