Luther College Community Music School now accepting registration for spring semester

Area musicians are now invited to enroll for the second semester of the Luther College Community Music School. Luther’s music education students are gearing up for the spring session of LCCMS which is open to anyone in the Decorah area.

LCCMS offers group classes, private lessons and SoDa (Song and Dance) Club, a community youth choir program for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Group classes will be offered Wednesday mornings during teacher in-service time. SoDa Club is held Monday evenings.

Group classes are 8-8:50 a.m. on Wednesday mornings at the Decorah Lutheran Church and are designed for students in grades 3-8. Classes will incorporate singing, moving, ukulele, drumming, and more. Each class will be led by two Luther student teachers. Tuition is $30 per six-week session. Group classes are free to members of the Decorah Lutheran Church. Spring sessions are from Feb. 20 to Apr. 3 (with no class on Mar. 27) and Apr. 10 to May 15.

Students of all ages enrolling in private lessons (on all band and orchestral instruments, piano, guitar, drum set and ukulele) will have 12, 30-minute weekly lessons with LCCMS teachers, scheduled for Monday evenings, Wednesday mornings or Saturday mornings, with other times available upon request. A LCCMS student recital will be held at the end of the semester for students taking private lessons, on Luther’s campus. Tuition is $150, which includes the lessons, recital participation and an accompanist for the student recital. Private voice lessons are not offered; young vocalists are encouraged to participate in SoDa Club.

SoDa Club is a community youth choir for students in grades K-8. Led by Luther professors Linda Martin and Jill Wilson, students are instructed in large and small groups with a focus on vocal production, music literacy, movement, and artistic music making. Sessions are from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Mondays from Feb. 4 to Mar. 18 at the Decorah Lutheran Church. An evening retreat and culminating performance are also held each semester. Tuition is $60.
