Luther College alumna Gaone Masire to present Price Lecture Nov. 27

The daughter of a former Botswanian president Quett Ketumile Masire, Luther College alumna Gaone Masire, class of 1983, will reflect on her career in the Lucille Brickner Brown Price Lecture on women in leadership.

The lecture is 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, in Valders Hall of Science Room 206 on Luther’s campus. Open to the public with no charge for admission, the lecture is part of the fall 2018 events commemorating the 50th anniversary of Luther’s Black Student Union.

Established by Lucille B. Price, the Price Distinguished Lecture Series is held in recognition of the value of a liberal arts education for women as they become leaders in today’s society. The fund supports speakers who illustrate the roles, contributions, programs and achievements of women as leaders in society.

A management and political science major at Luther, Masire went on to receive her master’s degree in public administration from the University of Illinois-Springfield in 1985. During her career in international human resource management, Masire served as the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow at the University of Washington-Seattle. She also worked in human resources for the Bank of Botswana for 12 years and the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The lecture is sponsored by Luther’s Center for Ethics and Public Engagement, Women and Gender Studies Program and the BSU 50th commemoration.

The Black Student Union is an organization that was established in the fall of 1968 by a group of students looking for a space where they were able to celebrate their culture, accomplishments and share in their struggles. The yearlong commemoration of the 50th anniversary of this organization formally commenced during homecoming weekend in October, and will continue with lectures, speakers and other events throughout the academic year.
