Luther College to host candidate forum Oct. 5

The Luther College political science department, Luther College social work program and the American Association of University Women is hosting a local political candidate forum from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206, on the Luther campus.

The event is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Candidates for Decorah mayor, Decorah city council and Decorah Parks and Recreation Board will be present.

Invited candidates include Lorraine Borowski and Gary Rustad, mayor; Randy Schissel, city council Ward 1 (incumbent); Andy Carlson, city council Ward 3 (incumbent); Chuck Lore (incumbent) and Johanna Bergen, city council Ward 5; Ross Hadley and Brett Robinson, city council at-large; Cindy Albers (incumbent), Jeff Tomlinson and Shirley Vermace (incumbent), Parks and Recreation Board, two seats available.

Carol Hagen, licensed independent social worker, will serve as moderator for the forum. Each candidate will give a brief introduction and address any issues they want to bring up. Audience members will have the change to write questions to any or all of the candidates. Hagen will read the questions, and candidates will have one minute to respond.
