Interested in Band at Luther? Â
There are two bands to play in at Luther that are open to all class years and majors:
- Concert Band is Luther’s flagship band ensemble and is one of the oldest touring concert bands in the nation.
- Placement into Concert Band requires an audition. Details regarding the audition and excerpts can be found below.
- Symphonic Band is Luther’s secondary band ensemble, comprised of outstanding musicians from all over campus.
- Placement into Symphonic Band requires a chair-placement assessment. Details regarding the chair-placement assessment can be found below.
Band Audition Information for Fall 2023:
- Band placement auditions/assessment will take place Tuesday, August 29 – Friday, September 1.
- Audition/assessment excerpts for fall 2023 are available for download at this link.
- Students who plan to audition for Concert Band and/or placement into Symphonic Band should prepare the appropriate excerpts. Students may be asked to sight read as part of their audition.
- You can find the audition dates, schedule, and locations posted on Dr. Near’s bulletin board/office door (Jenson-Noble 168) beginning Monday, August 28. Please add your name to the list to secure your audition slot/time.
Full ensemble rehearsals will begin the first week of September. Detailed rehearsal schedules will be available in the coming months.
