Two local authors, Carol Hagen and Nick Preus, will be at the Luther Book Shop offering signed copies and showcasing their newest titles with Scandinavian topics.
Carol Hagen’s new book, How Many Kransekaker?! introduces young readers to this traditional Nordic confection. Readers spanning generations will cherish the story of Ella and her brother Aksel gathering in grandma’s kitchen to prepare kransekake—a “wreath cake.” Carol has teamed up again with award-winning illustrator Kari Vick in a new kitchen adventure for these familiar characters from her first book, What’s in Rømmegrøt?! which will also be available.
Nicholas Preus, professor emeritus of English at Luther College, and Kari Grønningsæter published This Boundless Ocean, a re-telling of 22 year-old Ninna Saanum’s (Kari’s grandmother) and her journey sailing around the globe in 1913-1914 on a full-rigged Norwegian ship. Ninna’s journal and photographs tell the story of surviving a terrible North Sea storm, crossing the Pacific, and returning up the Atlantic, not knowing that World War I has started and that the ocean is a war zone.
