From Kyrgyzstan to Hollywood: A Filmmaker’s Shining Light on Untold Stories in ‘Ala Kachuu’

Identity Studies and the CEPE are sponsoring a visit for Maria Brendle, an Academy-award-nominated film director. Her film, Ala Kachuu (“Take and Run”), debuted in 2020, and depicts the life of a Kyrgys woman who falls victim to bride kidnapping, a cultural phenomenon in Kyrgyzstan. A showing of this 40-minute short film will be followed by a Q & A session. (A pre-screening of the film will be offered Sun., Oct. 9, at 4 pm in Olin 102.)
