Our Faculty
At Luther College, our faculty are the key to our experience. They challenge our students to tackle complex issues and live lives with meaning and purpose. Not only are they experts in their fields — 95 percent of full-time faculty have earned a doctorate or the highest degree in their field — they are dedicated to helping you learn and grow.
As a student at Luther College, you’ll work directly with faculty throughout your four years. At other schools, you might have certain classes or discussions led by teaching assistants. But at Luther, our professors will teach your lectures and guide your lab sections.
We are proud to have a 11:1 student-to-faculty ratio with an average class size of 17. This means your professors will know your strengths, goals, and interests. They’re readily accessible outside of class to help with any questions or assignments. Our Luther faculty will help you achieve more than you believe possible.
I love watching students figure out what they would like to do with their lives, tackle hard questions, come to those ‘ah-ha’ moments, and go on to contribute to the world in unexpected and exciting ways.

Across departments, Luther faculty and students partner to complete important research. You’ll be able to assist them in their field of study or come up with your own experiments with a professor as your mentor. These projects result in papers that you will jointly publish with your professors or present at conferences. Recent student-faculty collaborations include studying soil health, cultivating innovations in the education system, and cataloging music history.
Luther professors will teach you off-campus as well. Our faculty lead numerous study away and study abroad programs. Whether you take a three-week J-Term trip or a semester-long program, you’ll build relationships with professors as you explore a new culture. They’ll guide you with historical knowledge, research tips, and the best local places to eat.

Nothing is better than having a student tell you—even if it is years later—that one of my classes changed them or affected how they want to live in the world.
