Sustainability Resources

When it comes to sustainability, the Center for Sustainable Communities encourages you to think big, and start small. Addressing climate change can feel daunting, but progress only takes one small step.

We’ve pulled together some resources to help you adopt sustainability practices in your life on campus, and beyond.

Public Transportation and Taxi Services

Hometown Taxi is available for ride within Decorah or regionally. You can call (563) 382-3155 to arrange an immediate ride or make a reservation for a future ride. Visit their web site for fare information.

NEICAC-Transit is the public bus service in NE Iowa. Because they serve small town communities and rural areas, their services have been structured to meet the transportation needs of everyone.

There are no bus stops to find, instead the bus comes right to your location and takes you where you want to go. At Luther, the bus will pick you up and drop you off at the main door of the Union.

For information about hours, services for persons with disabilities, and to make a ride request, visit the website or phone (563) 382-8436.

Electric Vehicle Charging Station

As an increasing number of Luther students, faculty, and staff have been buying and using electric vehicles, the Center for Sustainable Communities installed an electric vehicle charging station in May 2016 behind the F.W. Olin Building. Drivers of electric vehicles can pay a nominal hook-up fee to charge their vehicle. The user also has the option to receive a text when the vehicle is done charging.

Sustainability staff note that the charging station has been well-received by parents of students who visit Luther.

A second dual-port charger is scheduled to be installed near Regents Center in early 2023. Students, faculty, staff, and Decorah community members are welcome to use the electric vehicle Chargepoint station at any time!
