Biography

Education: M.M., McGill University; M.M., Eastman School of Music; B.M., Vanderbilt University

Amy Nam is on faculty at Luther College in Decorah, IA, and teaches at Mt. Calvary Academy of Music in Excelsior, MN, as well as Blessings Academy of Arts & Music in Hastings, MN. As a soloist, she has appeared with the McGill Contemporary Ensemble, the Vanderbilt University Orchestra, and the Sewannee Summer Festival Orchestra. She studied with Montreal Symphony Orchestra principal harpist Jennifer Swartz, Vienna Philharmonic harpist Anneleen Lenearts, Memphis Symphony principal harpist Marian Shaffer, and renowned harpist Kathleen Bride. Her honors include graduating as the Blair School of Music Founder’s Medalist in 2016, receiving a BMI Student Composer Award in 2018, and receiving a commission by the Rochester, NY-based ensemble fivebyfive funded through Chamber Music America’s Classical Commissioning program in 2020. As an educator she aims to aid students in developing creative problem-solving abilities, musicality, critical listening skills, confidence, joy, and curiosity.
