Students Helping Our Community

Welcome to the SHOC (Students Helping Our Community) homepage for the current school year! SHOC was founded in Spring 2010 with the goal of providing and organizing volunteer opportunities to members in return for 10 service hours each semester.

SHOC strives to present volunteer opportunities on and off campus for our members to become involved in. Our goal is to provide a streamlined platform for students to easily find a range of volunteer opportunities while providing options for leadership. With an emphasis on helping members connect with events both within Luther’s campus and the greater Decorah area, we aim to strengthen and enhance our community as a whole through volunteerism, while encouraging leadership.

This year got off to a good start with SHOC members volunteering with the Caf to Community program, Decorah Human Powered Trails and Luther Serves (formerly known as Fall Fling).

Our big event for the Fall semester is Trick-or-Canning! This entails hosting a food drive throughout Decorah neighborhoods. The donated food is delivered to Decorah First Lutheran's Food Pantry and Peanut Butter to Northeast Iowa's backpack program.

As always, feel free to contact us at [email protected] with any questions!
